Our Staff

Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in diagnosing and treating mental, emotional, and behavioral problems and substance abuse disorders. Training beyond medical school includes a 4-year residency in pyschiatry; many psychiatrists choose to continue with further specialty training in areas such as child and adolescent psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, psychopharmacology, and psychoanalysis.

As medical doctors, psychiatrists are experts in the physiology of mental illnesses. Psychiatrists can offer a variety of treatments including behavioral therapy, cognitive therapy, interpersonal therapy, electroconvulsive therapy, and prescription of medication. Treatment may be provided for individuals, couples, families, or groups.

Our medical staff includes the following professionals:

R. Timothy Brown, M.D.

Board-certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist
Board-certified Addiction Psychiatrist

I am a Louisiana native who received my doctor of medicine from Louisiana State University in 1991. Upon graduation, I completed my internship and residency through the LSU Department of Psychiatry in New Orleans. I then completed a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship through the Division of Infant, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at LSU. For the next two years, I assumed the position of medical director of the Jefferson Parish Substance Abuse Clinic. During my tenure, I served as medical director of the Jefferson Parish Adult Drug Court and participated in the development of the Juvenile Drug Court. Simultaneously, I also began as psychiatric consultant to the Associations for Retarded Citizens for four local parishes, a position I maintain to date. After leaving State service, I worked with a multidisciplinary non-profit children's mental health agency for two years before venturing out on my own in 2000.

My practice is currently focused primarily on outpatient child and adolescent psychiatric treatment. I also have a large adult ADHD practice. I am the Medical Director of the addictive disorders treatment programs through ACER with offices located throughout the New Orleans metropolitan area. Additionally, I am board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in General Psychiatry, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, and Addiction Psychiatry.

I serve as a speaker and/or advisor for several pharmaceutical companies; currently these include Eli Lilly, Novartis and Forrest. I am paid to provide educational and promotional lectures to doctors, nurses, pharmacists, medical students and other health care providers throughout the United States. I have also served as a clinical research physician for national ADHD medication trials.

On a personal note, I am married to Leslie Brown, M.D., a pediatrician, and have a daughter and a son.
